What should society do for “uncivilized cultures” like the Sawi?

No offense, but I never thought the cultures as Sawi's culture might still exist in the other part of the world. Yes, I read books and watched TV programs about Indians or native tribes, but I always thought they were now just imaginary people, exaggerated by human’s imagination (which sounds very dumb). Since nowadays the world has become “sophisticated” in culture, the society seems to neglect the uncivilized cultures. However, now it is important to help them with supplies. It may be difficult to influence the people just as Don Richardson did to the Sawi, but we should at least attempt to support them.
South Korea supports the North Korea by supporting food, money, and home supplies, since they are uncivilized than South Korea. Therefore, I think we can help them by providing some clothing and medical supplies. It is widely known that many people in uncivilized cultures, such as Africa or North Korea, tend to become sick easily because they do not have enough medical care or clothing that covers up their bodies. People around the country can offer donate clothes they do not wear anymore and offer some money for the medicines. Also, just as the Habitat Mission Trips, we can help the people to build houses for them. The Peace Child states that the tribes have to clamber up to their houses, which sound very dangerous to me, and whenever the long poles that support their homes begin to rot, they just move to a new location and build new houses. Small concerns might be able to help them greatly.

Alice! helping the people by building them houses would be great, but would the Sawi appreciate that? Of course, to some extent, they would appreciate it but what if building new houses for them was breaking their culture? Maybe too much help might destroy their pattern of life, so I think helping while still preserving their culture is the best way to help the Sawi.

I would not use "uncivilized" or "civilized" to describe a culture. Technically undeveloped maybe? These people are not necessarily less civilized, but they are just behind technology and "knowledge" a bit.
It is great that a part of the world does support the Sawi people. But do all people take the time to do that? Some traders that appear in the book kidnap the tribesmen possibly for show. Not only that, various horrible circumstances may occur to the tribesmen due to the people who consider themselves more "civilized." I hope everyone and every nation could contribute to the needs of the people like you claimed.

Great reflection though :)

First of all, thank you to both of you Justin and Hannah. Before thinking deeper to this question, I always thought we should help the culture who are "un-civilized" or less-developed, since they seem to struggle with less supplies. However, I realized it is also part of their culture. Rather than trying to change their culture, I noticed it is more important to keep their unique culture.

Well, I think just sending them some medicines and clothings would be okay since it does not affect or changing their culture in bad ways. They lacking knowledges to some extent, and they might not be able to recover from simple disease like cold and die. I agree with Alice in that sense. :)

Hopefully after we have considered Auschwitz and the Holocaust - your post will be more appreciated. We cannot sit by and do nothing - isn't that what happened to the Jews? Alice some of your ideas are practical and sincere. Good Job! Mrs.Mc.
